Contemporary Art and Multicultural Education edited by Susan Cahan and Zoya Kocur, was published in 1996 by The New Museum and Routledge. The book’s themes and teaching strategies serve as a curriculum guide for high school teachers and students and represents an end project that grew out of the Museum’s High School Art Program (HSAP), established in 1980 as one of the first museum education programs in the country to engage young people with contemporary art. Contemporary Art and Multicultural Education encourages thinking, questioning, and critique using contemporary art as a platform. The guide has been shaped by and is addressed to the experientially diverse community that The New Museum views as its constituency.
